Artist statement

As an artist, I explore how melodies, rhythms, or lyrics could be expressed in art, exploring the deep relationship between music and visual art. Throughout my life, I’ve noticed that when I listen to music, I mostly focus on the instrumentals, but there are other songs that I can visualize. For me, music is more than just an auditory experience; it can create strong visuals that I use in my artwork. Each piece demonstrates the complex connection between sound and vision by reflecting the unique narratives and visuals that certain songs create in my mind. I wanted to combine my two passions and artistic talents into my show. I use a range of music genres and mixed media in my work, which allows me to convey all of my thoughts and feelings. I focus on what I visualize, figure out what media can be used, and then eventually establish a conversation between my perspective and the viewers.

While certain songs have profound feelings and inspire vibrant, dynamic artwork, others do not have the same effect. For the songs where I visualize, I would make a playlist and write down what I would picture while listening to them. I try to capture the essence of what makes some songs go beyond sound and become intense visuals, and this contrast serves as the driving force behind my creative process. Throughout this process, I’ve revealed a hidden talent I did not know I had. I've discovered that it's fun to visually bring songs to life through this approach, allowing viewers to step into my mind and experience music as I see it. Through my artwork, I hope to inspire viewers to think about their connections to music and to learn about the unique narratives that arise when audio and visuals meet.
