Artist statement

I made oil paintings that are based on the nostalgia of my four years as a college student. I am an international from Japan, and majoring in Art and Psychology here. While I spent time studying in Rock Island, I also visited outside of Illinois on a break. I vividly remember the aesthetic of New York, Los Angeles, and Paris.

As I travelled, I experienced so much hardships and frustration, but discovered so many new worlds other than my foundation as a Japanese. When I remember those things, all of the memories are beautiful. And, most importantly, I have a huge appreciation for each country which helped my growth. As I discovered the new world, I was realizing how happy I am to be able to exist as myself.
