Campus update for March 24
March 24, 2020 Dear students,
Your fellow Vikings are on the front lines in the coronavirus fight. We told you about Dr. Rebecca Heick '96 yesterday. Here are three more: Dr. Emily Landon ’99, Ryan Landi ’09 and Dr. Randy Heinzel ’98.
And we are finding more alumni in public health and related fields each day who are making us proud. If you see them on social, give them a shout-out!
Today's developments:
• Last Lecture and the Senior Toast are NOT canceled but will be celebrated virtually! Details TBA.
• The mailing center is closed until the state’s shelter-in-place order is lifted April 7. Your mail will be forwarded and packages held.
Housing
If you were not able to check out of your residence hall or TLA, don’t worry. We will share more information about check-out once the state’s shelter-in-place order is lifted April 7.
If you had to leave items in your room or TLA, you will still receive your refund. See housing.augustana.edu. Click on “Applications and Forms” and select “Spring 2020” to let us know that you are not here, but have left your belongings.
Use that same form if you need to stay for the remainder of spring semester. Please let us know by Friday.
Refunds
On your billing statement you will see a credit for your meal plan and a separate credit for housing. It will be refunded in one check.
From the Registrar's office

We'll see you in the fall, and at graduation
(Pastor Priggie has the day off, so we are sharing a message from Kent Barnds, executive vice president, about his experience last Saturday helping students check out.)
The last eight days have been a whirlwind — urgent decisions, unknowns and a good bit of agony. But, I am not sure it really hit me until I helped the students this morning check out of Westerlin Hall. That was the moment it all got real for me.
Early in the afternoon, I thought about the fact that I had done a final review of each and every one of these departing students' applications for college. I had shared in their excitement as they moved into Westerlin at the beginning of this academic year. And here I was again, sharing in another milestone moment of their lives, and sharing in the emotion of the day.
There was hint of sadness and hopelessness in the air today. But, the sadness dissipated with each good-bye as the common refrain was “See you in the fall."
So, I want to thank every parent and every student who has been so patient, understanding and gracious during the last eight days. I also want to wish you the best in the remainder of the semester.
Know you are resilient and smart, and know that we are all on this adventure together. We will see you all next fall!
And, to seniors and their parents, I look forward to seeing you at graduation — when and where is yet to be confirmed. But, it is certain we will celebrate your Augustana College accomplishments in a grand way!
Go Augie!
