Diploma and a national title, all in one week

Marckus Simmons graduated with a degree in biology from Augustana College on a Sunday and a few days later  he truly put the hammer down, winning an NCAA national title.

Retro Rally and Street Fair

The College Hill District of Rock Island will host its fifth annual Retro Rally and Street Fair, a family friendly day of music, food, shopping, vintage cars, and a pinup contest. Activities continue until 5 p.m.

MadeRight Market

The 2nd MadeRight Market will feature goods made and sold by the artists and makers, both local and not so local. Local musicians will be playing throughout the event ending at 5 p.m.

Ten students receive awards for international study and summer programs

Dr. Dan Lee, professor of religion, and his wife, Ruth Lee, established the Excellence in the Liberal Arts Award, which provides Augustana students with $400-$4,000 for international study or summer programs in the humanities.

Business plan competition winners

Inaugural business plan competition awards $14,000

Augustana’s Department of Business Administration held its inaugural Rogers Business Plan Competition this spring. The Howard and Helen Rogers Entrepreneurial Endowment provided the funds for prizes of $7,000, $4,500 and $2,500 for the first-, second- and third-place teams, respectively.

Augustana holds second annual robotics competition

Seven teams from Augustana College, Knox College and St. Ambrose University went head-to-head in the second annual Augustana Invitational Robotics Challenge in early May. Teams from Augustana won first and third place, while a St. Ambrose team took home second.

All-campus retreat

Augustana faculty and staff are invited to an all-day retreat, beginning with a continental breakfast.

The program will begin at 9:30 a.m. After a program of speakers and reports, lunch will be provided for all employees.

Fall Symposium Day

Fall Symposium Day is an alternative day of learning that includes presentations by faculty, students, staff, alumni and invited speakers. This day has a rotating theme connected to Augie Reads.

Former Augie coach Davis fondly remembered

Football coach Don Davis, who died Saturday at the age of 82, was an ``artist'' when it came to teaching and getting the most out of the offensive linemen who played for him.
