Class Notes appears in the monthly e-newsletter for alumni and friends of the college.
The reasons alumni and friends of the college choose to give to Augustana are varied. Some are following the example of a family member; others simply want to give back to a place that gave them so much. And others have a desire to help a specific group of students or a meaningful program.
Emma Watts '25 was the grand prize winner for the Augie Abroad photo contest for 2023-2024. The contest was open to all Augustana students who went on a study abroad trip or term between summer 2023 and spring break 2024. There were four categories: architecture and design, nature, culture and celebration, and Augie student abroad.
Dave Markward is connected to Augustana not only through his education, but also his philanthropy. In 2020, he established an endowed fund to provide support for the diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) efforts of the college with earnings to be used at the discretion of the vice president for DEI to support that office's programs and initiatives.
Proceeds from Markward’s book, “From Dubuque to Selma and Beyond: My Journey to Understand Racism in America” will be donated to the endowed fund he created years ago, to support Augustana’s DEI office initiatives and all students.
