Confluences connect more than just rivers
There's something about two rivers coming together that brings out the sense of wonder in geographer Norm Moline.
Dr. Moline, an emeritus professor at Augustana College and a member of the board of directors for River Action, shares his curiosity during Riverine Walks in summer. He focuses on what it means for the Quad Cities to be situated on a confluence: the place where two rivers meet. In this case, the Mississippi and the Rock.
"For as long as I can remember, any time when I see a confluence ... my mind is thinking 'where did that little creek begin?'" he said. "And I'm wondering what it's like up that little creek."
