Get ready to support NAMI

The local National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) will hold its annual fundraising walk on Sept. 18. 

Augustana will organize a staff team and a student team for NAMI Walks Your Way Greater Mississippi Valley

Anna Misener, incoming president of Augie NAMI, will be the contact for the student team. Bill Iavarone, director of Student Counseling Service, will assemble the staff team.

A team does not need to donate in order to participate; however, each individual who raises $100 will get a T-shirt.

There are two upcoming events to raise awareness about NAMI walks:

NAMI at the Drive-In May 15

Join NAMI for a double-feature at the Blue Grass Drive-In Theater, 774 W Mayne St., Blue Grass, Iowa. "Hook" and "School of Rock will be shown, starting at 7:30.

Register your vehicle and purchase your tickets by number of occupants: adults $10, youth $5, under 3 years free. The theater is about 30 minutes from campus.

Mental Health for All Rally May 1

Fresh air, positive vibes, good music, art and yoga outdoors at the Figge Art Museum in Davenport. Free.

10 am: Music with Bret Dale of RME
10:20-10:40: Yoga with Sarah Connors of Tapas Yoga
10:45-11:30: Music with QCSO quartet
11:30-11:50: Yoga with Sarah Connors of Tapas Yoga

Expressionism painting all morning to create a canvas for NAMIWalks.

NAMI provides advocacy, education, support and public awareness so that all individuals and families affected by mental illness can build better lives.
