Entrepreneurial Center (EDGE)
We call it the “EDGE Center” which is short for Entrepreneurial Development through Guided Experiences.
For students that clear EDGE is that they gain valuable experience and build their portfolio to set themselves apart in their professional careers.
For organizations and businesses, the EDGE comes from working with students to develop quality communication, marketing and management assets.
The Entrepreneurial Center connects students with community organizations in need of communications, marketing and creative services, including web design. The students gain real experience to enhance their portfolios and résumés. Businesses and not-for-profit organizations gain a low-cost resource for their marketing needs.
The EDGE Center opened in 2010 as an expansion of the Augustana Web Guild model. The Web Guild provided an entrepreneurial paradigm as a self-funding student organization that raised money for the group by providing website development services at rates that would attract small businesses and nonprofits. This model worked extremely well, leading to mutually beneficial partnerships as organizations received quality web service at affordable prices, while students received hands-on experience running their own business.
The Web Guild was founded in 1997, and it received many requests for additional services, such as logo design and video editing. Aside from a handful of occasional projects, the group was unable to accommodate these requests, primarily due to the volume of website development work. As part of the development of the Community Engagement Center – the precursor to CORE – the Web Guild model was used as a base to develop the Entrepreneurial Center. The expansion led to the ability to attract more students and to diversify the services offered. The EDGE Center now offers web design, logo and print design, event planning, social media marketing, and video editing services.
The Center also houses two student groups – the Web Guild, which still forms the core of the EDGE Center, and the ADs group.
