Brittany McCall she/her

Assistant Professor of Biology

I am, broadly, an aquatic ecologist. I love being in and around aquatic ecosystems and exploring the rich diversity these systems have to offer. I enjoy creating opportunities to get students and the community reacquainted and involved with these systems as a means to promote environmental stewardship and community engagement.

I teach in the Biology and Environment science, Geography, and Geology departments. When possible, I like to incorporate experiential learning opportunities in the form of research experiences driven by questions and inquiries from community partners.

My research uses small, non-game fish (fish you do not traditionally fish for) as study specimens. With these fish, I use an interdisciplinary approach - genetics, climate modelling, ecology, geography - to address environmental and biodiversity questions aimed to help conserve aquatic ecosystems. I do manage an active lab with undergraduate research assistants. I encourage any students interested to reach out to learn of any potential opportunities. Students that have worked with me have had opportunities to learn how to write for and apply for grants, present research at local, regional, and international conferences, and publish their work in scientific journals.
