Institutional research dashboard

The dashboard is a five-year comparison of several key indicators/measures that aid the college in decision making. These include progress and trends in admissions, advancement, enrollment, finances, student financial assistance, students' instruction and experience. Unless otherwise noted, student data is based on the fall semester census date; fiscal data is based on end-of-fiscal year values.

Retention and graduation rates

Retention and graduation are used as measures of student success. Retention rates measure the percent of first-time undergraduate students who returned the following fall, and graduation rates measure the percent of first-time undergraduate students who complete their program of study at Augustana within four years or less (4-year grad rate) or within six years or less (6-year grad rate). Retention and graduation rates are also desegregated by students’ demographics and other variables such as gender, first-generation, etc.

Definitions:

Original Entering Cohort: Full-time, first-time degree-seeking students who started college in the fall of a given year. The original cohort never changes.

Adjusted Cohort: The original cohort minus any students who are deceased or are removed from a cohort for any allowable exclusions per IPEDS definitions: students may be removed from a cohort if they left the institution for one of the following reasons: death or total and permanent disability; service in the armed forces (including those called to active duty); service with the foreign aid service of the federal government, such as Peace Corps; or service on official church missions.

Cohort Year: Year of the fall semester students entered Augustana. This is not the year the students are expected to graduate (class year).

Retention Rate: The number of students who return in the fall of a year divided by the adjusted cohort.

First-Year Retention: % of the entering cohort who enrolled 1 year after entering; retained to second year.

Second-Year Retention: % of the entering cohort who enrolled 2 years after entering; retained to third year.

Third-Year Retention: % of the entering cohort who enrolled 3 years after entering; retained to 4th year.

Graduation Rate: The number of students who graduate by a specific year divided by the adjusted cohort

Student body diversity

The following tables contain self-identified race/ethnicity of students enrolled at Augustana between fall 2012 and fall 2025. The definitions for racial/ethnic categories follow the National Center for Educations Statistics guidelines for collecting and reporting race and ethnicity information.
