The Color of Shapes, Ted Eckhardt
Artist statement:
Focusing on abstraction, my series entitled the Color of Shapes, shows the relationship between two-dimensional planes and form with color to create depth. Almost random, the shapes fuse together by complimentary colors and overlay of layers. Each piece unique from the other, the series shows how the mind can create an idea for what the image really is. The subject is up to the interpretation of the viewer.
The details are in the piece itself. Smooth, seamless lines separate each color as if it was a puzzle piece. These puzzle pieces are a metaphor for life and the many ways we can fit the pieces together in our mind. Fluidity is also portrayed in the series with rounded shapes that are accompanied by more geometric styles to create balance. This project really tested my ability to work on a large scale, as well as digging deeper into color theory.
