Administrative/Biographical History:
P.E. Melin was born in Dalarna, Sweden and emigrated to the United States in 1875 to take a position teaching Greek and Hebrew at Augustana College. Late in 1876, he started the Swedish newspaper Skandia in Moline, Illinois with A.C.F. DeRemee. He left the newspaper after a few months and he left Augustana College in 1878 to return to Sweden. After a few years, he received a call from Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas, which he accepted, but returned to Sweden after a brief stay.
Skandia newspaper was published in Moline, Illinois from 29 December 1876-1878. It was established by A.C.F. DeRemee and P.E. Melin. The paper was edited by P.E. Melin until 1877 and then by Magnus Elmblad and Herman Stockenström. DeRemee sold his share in the paper to Gustaf Swensson in 1877. Melin sold his remaining portion of the paper to Swensson in July 1877. The paper was sold to Svenska Tribunen in Chicago in May 1878.
