Grants help Augustana provide speech and language services
In the last year, Augustana College's Center for Speech, Language, and Hearing received $22,500 in grants and awards various agencies, allowing the center to offer scholarships for its services. "By offering scholarships, we are able to provide services to individuals who otherwise may not be able to afford them, and at the same time, we also can provide our Augustana student clinicians with a more robust clinical experience," said Dr. Allison Haskill.

Augustana, Longfellow students make dream machines
When asked how she would make the world of the future better, Edita Salama, 11, built a dam to protect people from tsunamis. Salama, a student at Longfellow Liberal Arts School in Rock Island, made her project Tuesday during Augustana's Symposium Day. The Longfellow class was invited to create an object that would solve a problem.

HIV researcher to speak at Symposium Day
Augustana's Winter Symposium Day will focus on Social Justice. The daylong event on Tuesday, Jan. 20 will take the place of classes, and the entire campus community will have the opportunity to discuss a variety of issues related to Social Justice. In this year's report, Augustana earned the third-place ranking among top national liberal arts colleges in the country. Lauren Kirik '14 came to Augustana to become a graphic designer, but an internship at a full-service branding company convinced her otherwise. Dr. Mike Wolf suggested she take a course in mineralogy after Geology 101, and as Kirik says, "I never looked back."
Odenkirk encourages theatre students to focus on improving
"Breaking Bad" star Bob Odenkirk Tuesday encouraged Augustana theatre students to concentrate on steadily getting better at what they do, and not so much on the "big break." He joined the students for an informal workshop in the Black Box Theatre. Earlier in the day he had lunch with students, and on Monday evening spoke at an event at the Center for Student Life.
