Viking Connections: Courtney Cook
Courtney Cook works for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as a surveillance officer with the Case-Based Surveillance Operations team within the Office of Public Health Data, Surveillance, and Technology. In this role, she works directly with state health departments and provides guidance on submitting case-based surveillance data to the National Notifiable Disease Surveillance System (NNDSS). She also deploys for emergency responses when needed, most recently for mpox data support.
"Throughout the years, I have been mentored in small ways and larger ways by several people along the way. I truly value every opportunity I have to provide mentorship to others the same as it was offered to me. When I learned about Viking Connections, I felt an immediate calling to apply.
I can offer students my unique perspective on public health and epidemiology through a variety of experiences. I am also happy to talk about the graduate school process, searching for internships, and searching for jobs.
I was excited to learn that Augie has a PUBH major now (didn’t exist when I was there!) and I'd love to help out my fellow Public Health Vikings!"
