Staying on track in STEM

Whether you’re majoring in a STEM field or looking for help with a science course outside your major, Augustana’s STEM/Q Center is the place to go. STEM learning and quantitative reasoning can be challenging, whatever your level of experience. But you’ve got this! The STEM/Q Center is here for you.

Students collaborate in the STEM/Q Center.
Collaborating in the STEM/Q Center

Here you’ll find support from faculty and peer leaders who shine in science, engineering and math, as well as other students looking for help or just looking to talk about STEM topics. The STEM/Q Center also supports the social sciences, such as accounting, business, economics and psychology.

Whatever your major, the goal here is simple: we’ll help you stay engaged, stay on top of your coursework and keep moving forward. Use the STEM/Q Center to:

• Ask questions and work through challenging material with guidance.

• Develop study strategies and problem-solving approaches.

• Become familiar with the tools and expectations of STEM coursework and careers.

Designed around your experience in class

STEM support is closely tied to what happens in class. Faculty identify the concepts students find most challenging. Students share where they are getting stuck, what tools they need and how they learn best.

You can revisit class topics in the STEM/Q Center—through workshops, conversations and working side-by-side with faculty and peers. In this way, you build understanding over time, instead of trying to catch up later. Like many, you might return often as part of your routine, building confidence as you go.

Where will you go?

The STEM/Q Center approach helps prepare you for what comes next — whether that’s on to your next-level course at Augustana, or further along your career path:

• Health professions and clinical pathways

• Engineering pathways, including mechanical, civil and environmental engineering

• Careers in computer science, data analytics and other quantitative fields

• Graduate and professional study in areas including health care, law, mathematics, business and the natural sciences

Your success at Augustana is designed for the future you want for yourself. The STEM/Q Center offers you the preparation and direction to take your next step with confidence.
