Filipino Salu-Salo
The Filipino Student Organization will celebration Filipino-American Heritage Month with a Salu-Salo (gathering). Students are invited to join in and learn an aspect of Filipino culture by eating, singing, dancing, and playing Filipino street games.
Learn how to dance "tinikling," a unique traditional dance in the Philippines that involves bamboo sticks; team up with friends in a street game called "patintero"; or enjoy a "banana-cue," one of the Philippines' sweet delicacies.
Well-Being Lab: Athletes as Social Change Agents
Zachary Draves, program director for sexual violence prevention and education, will shares ways that athletes can advocate for the causes they believe in.
Well-being labs provide students with knowledge and skills from different disciplines. Students will have the opportunity to explore social, occupational, intellectual, emotional, physical and spiritual well-being in interactive sessions with campus experts.
Celebration of Tredway Library Prize winners
The Tredway Library will celebrate the 2020 and 2021 winners of the Prize for First-Year Research, Alison Decker and Kara West.
Cake and other refreshments will be served.
Paper on homelessness in queer community wins Tredway Prize
Kara West is the winner of the 2021 Tredway Library Prize for First-Year Research for her paper, “Queer Even in Safe Spaces: Homelessness, Shelter Failures, and the Queer Community.”
Multicultural Speaker Series: Dr. Monica Smith
Dr. Monica Smith, Augustana vice president for diversity, equity and inclusion, will be featured in the Multicultural Speaker Series sponsored by the Greater Quad Cities Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
The series is to provide an opportunity for individuals and organizations to engage diverse residents and employees from multiple sectors in the Quad Cities region, broaden their networks, and enhance their awareness of diversity issues.
Identity Outlook: an open mic
Within the Philippines there is a variety of ethnolinguistic groups, such as Cebuano, Ilocano, Marno, etc. In America, there are also a variety of ways that people can identify themselves. Join the Multicultural Programming Board, Filipino Student Organization, and Reading/Writing Center as they offer you the opportunity to express your identity.
