Tip of the Iceberg: Understanding the Bigger Picture of Pandemic Disease Severity
In one of the annual Frieze Lecture Series, Dr. Rebecca Heick, assistant professor of public health at Augustana College, considers the rising death toll of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
While it is understandable that the number of deaths has become a major focus of media reports and intervention efforts, mortality is just the tip of the iceberg. Less severe disease is much more common and is an important component of the bigger prevention picture.
Lectures will be presented virtually via Zoom. Registered participants will receive the meeting invitation via email.
The annual Frieze Lecture Series is a 23-year partnership between the Rock Island Public Library and Augustana College. This year's theme is "Global Crises, Past and Present."
The series is named for the 1903 library's frieze, an architectural feature which goes all the way around the top of the building and is engraved with the names of writers. The authors carved into the sandstone are Homer, Longfellow, Emerson, Virgil, Hugo, Shakespeare, Goethe, Burns, Dante, Hawthorne, Esaias Tegner and George Bancroft.

Campus Clean Up
Students are encouraged to attend a campus clean-up service event hosted by Mortar Board and Student United Way. Groups can sign up in numbers of 6-10 and locations will be spread out across campus.

Those interested in rushing for Chi Omega Gamma are invited to decorate spooky-themed cookies and meet active members. Interested participants should sign up for a 30-minute time slot.
There will be a virtual option for those unable to attend in person.
OctobHERfest
OctobHERfest is a campus wide event hosted by Her Campus. Students are invited to a night of painting and decorating mini pumpkins and plant pots from 6-7:30 p.m. in the lower Quad and then watching a Halloween movie from 7:30-9 p.m. in Hanson 102.
In case of rain, decorating will move to the lobby of Hanson in the atrium,
