Augie reflection: Belle Hartman
Students are invited to attend Augie Reflections this week and listen to this week's speaker, Belle Hartman. She is a senior from Marengo, Iowa, majoring in biology and public health. She is also the SGA Vice President, a member of the Delta Chi Theta sorority, and on the women's track and field team.
World Food Day
Join the members of Augustana Local Agriculture Society (ALAS) and Campus Kitchens as they celebrate World Food Day. An estimated 5-10% of Augie students are currently food insecure, therefore the goal of World Food Day is to spread awareness about food and environmental justice issues. There will be a showing of a few short films followed by student-led discussion.
Identity Crisis: Spanish Verbs as Nouns
The Department of World Languages will present a research colloquium by Dr. Jeff Renaud, assistant professor of Spanish, "Identity Crisis: Spanish Verbs as Nouns."
Dr. Renaud specializes in Spanish phonology, the linguistics concerned with the organization of sounds in languages.
Men's golf: Fall Shootout
The Augustana men's golf team will host the Viking Fall Shootout beginning at noon.
Center for Creativity CATalyst Lab opening
The Center for Creativity invites campus to the official opening of the center's CATalyst Lab from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. in Bergendoff 103.
There will be an opening toast at 11:45 and refreshments.
The CatLab is a place for making and doing. It’s a place for students and faculty to think, reflect, and discuss, to find community, collaboration, and encouragement, and to experiment, try, fail, and try again.
Memorial for Dr. Dorothy Parkander
Augustana Chaplain Richard Priggie will lead a memorial service for Dr. Dorothy Parkander.
Dr. Parkander, a 50-year member of the Augustana faculty, died Oct. 8 at the age of 93.
"The Hate U Give" private screening
The Multicultural Programming Board (MPB) Campus Awareness and Outreach committee is taking students to watch “The Hate U give” in Davenport’s Cinemax next Friday. This event is a follow-up from the symposium day presentation, “Why My People?”. Everyone is welcome to come and the outing is completely free. We will be providing transportation & paying for movie tickets. It will be a private screening for Augustana students.
The bus departs from the Gerber Center circle at 7 p.m. and the movie starts at 8 p.m. Students who are interested should sign up to RSVP.
Kali Yuga Improvisation Ensemble
Dr. Randall Hall and Augustana's Kali Yuga improvisation ensemble will explore the acoustic possibilities of the Figge Art Museum while considering the artistic influences of the French Modern era that have helped shape the music today.
Performers will be at stations throughout the museum to create a changing frame of reference as the listener moves through the museum, creating a sort of Cubist collage in sound, which interacts with the visual images on display.
The event is in conjunction with the museum's current exhibit, "French Moderns: Monet to Matisse, 1850-1950."
Alumni honored for achievements, service
The Augustana Alumni Association recognized the achievements, contributions and service of four alumni and one college group at Homecoming Oct. 6.
