CORE scores big with graduates
If you’re a current student, graduates urge you to use CORE — our customized network of mentors, resources and experiences focused on your success.
Your career success begins with your Augustana liberal arts education, extraordinary learning experiences, and your network of mentors—from professors to professional advisors in CORE.
Together, these qualities will set you up with the skills, confidence and connections you’ll need. After four years, you can take it from here.
Here are some of the most recent stats and stories, to show how it works.
Every Augustana student who applied to dental, optometry or veterinary school was accepted in 2017.
This compares with national averages around 50% or lower.
Claire Kepner ’17 is in veterinary school in Alaska.
She says, “Augustana prepared me extremely well — in my major subjects and in less tangible areas like critical thinking and problem solving.”
Nearly all recent graduates had professional outcomes — jobs, graduate school or service — soon after graduating. This compares with 84% nationwide.
Jaleesa Kindred ’17 majored in engineering physics and works with wind energy at Exelon, where she interned as a student.
She says, “I transferred to Augie my junior year and I absolutely enjoyed the two years I had there. I can honestly say if it wasn’t for Augie and all of the incredible people I met there, I wouldn’t have the job I do today.”
All Augustana graduates surveyed — whether employed or in grad school — said Augustana prepared them to succeed in their current job or program.
Ken Clay ’14 is CEO of 38th Street Studios in Chicago.
He says, “We’’re just a product of the Augustana environment. We’ve had great mentors and leaders at Augie who have helped us along the way, and enabled us to carry our vision into the real world.”
That’s how many recent graduates who continued their educations were accepted into one or both of their top two graduate schools.
Sam Dunklau ’17 got into his dream graduate program.
He says, “My experiences pushed me over the edge to be accepted in my master’s program in public affairs reporting at the University of Illinois. It’s an opportunity that only a few get. I attribute that to an Augustana education.”
