Upsala College (East Orange, N.J.) records, 1893-1995
Upsala College was a Swedish-American college, founded by the Augustana Synod, in East Orange, New Jersey form 1893 to 1995. The records largely consist of papers of the presidents and other administrative offices. Also contains some faculty publications, records of student organizations, photographs and scrapbooks depicting campus life and some audiovisual materials.
Larry Scott papers, 1952-2010
Larry Scott was a professor of Scandinavian Studies at Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois from 1981-2013. He earned his Ph.D. in Scandinavian languages and literature at the University of Washington in 1973. Dr. Scott led the Augustana Summer School in Sweden (ASSIS) program as well as Augustana’s annual Sankta Lucia celebration. Most of these files relate to Dr. Scott’s teaching and extracurricular activities while associated with the Scandinavian Studies department at Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois.
Peter Froeberg family letters, autobiography, and other materials, 1894-1954
Letters from Peter Froeberg (Augustana Theological Seminary graduate and president emeritus of Upsala College) to his brother, Sven Froeberg, after immigrating to the United States. Letters describe their experience as immigrants trying to find employment, education, pastoral work, and familial matters. Peter serves as a mentor to his younger brother. Collection also contains background information on the brothers, Peter Froeberg’s autobiography, and audio recordings of Peter and photographs of Peter’s family.
Nytta och Nöje club (Rock Island, Ill.) records
Nytta och Nöje was founded at Augustana College on February 22, 1900. Its main mission was to preserve Swedish culture among people from or around Augustana College, Rock Island, Illinois. The collection consists of meeting minutes 1900-1984, group histories, program information, a portrait of members from 1905, and 17 audiocassette recordings of programs from the 1970s.
