Augie Sweethearts: Eric Youngquist and Barb Foleno, Class of 1968

Submitted by Eric Youngquist of Evanston, Ill.
In December, 1963 the Beatles released "I Saw Her Standing There". In January, 1966 that song came true for me. I was taking "Square and Folk Dancing", taught by Jane Brissman, for an easy PE credit, and on the first day I saw Barb Foleno standing there, across the gym. We had to choose partners and I was the first one across the floor. I wanted to get my "dibs" in early. "The way she looked was way beyond compare!" I moved so fast, I know I scared her.
We remained dance partners for the rest of the semester, but she had a guy at the time, so things did not bode well for me. But they broke up over the summer and, with the encouragement of good friends, I worked up the courage to ask her to Homecoming in 1967. She said YES! We have just celebrated our 50th Anniversary.
