Sinclair and 'The Mandalorian'
Jason Sinclair '02 just completed a job that would be the envy of humans across this planet. He was post-production coordinator for season three of "The Mandalorian."
"I spent the last year and a half working with some truly amazing and talented people," he said.
Overseeing every aspect from after the footage was shot until final delivery, Sinclair helped make sure all systems were in place for the editors, recording actors had schedules and oversight, the daily footage got where it needed to go, and the final sound mixing and color timing had a good workflow — all necessary to the ultimate enjoyment of any filmgoer.
At Augustana, Sinclair was a biology/pre-med major drawn to filmmaking. His biology professor Dr. Dara Wegman-Geedey recalled an opening trailer he made with an old camcorder for his group’s infectious disease project.
"He took footage at ankle height, through the grass, with the 'Jaws' theme in the background," Dr. Wegman-Geedey remembered. "Somehow, he even cajoled [Dean] Evelyn Campbell into saying the campus might have an outbreak and should be vigilant."
Sinclair, who took the only two film courses offered at the time, is excited about Augustana's new film major. Perhaps Augustana film graduates can connect with him in the future.
"The TV/film business is smaller than people realize," he said. "That’s actually one of the things I like most about the industry — the ability to work on all manner of projects with different people who share my passion."
Working on a movie for Amazon Studios now, Sinclair hopes to work for Lucasfilm again in the future. After all, getting the job on "The Mandalorian" was not a mysterious process. He heard they needed a post-production coordinator, submitted his résumé and nailed the interview.
And "the rest," he said, "is history … a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away."
