Jennifer Heacock-Renaud completed her PhD in 2018 at the University of Iowa, where she specialized in gender studies and literature of the early modern Mediterranean. Her research explores the intersections of religion, race, ethnicity, gender and sexuality, especially in texts that feature covert resistance among religion converts in Inquisitorial Spain. Since then, her research agenda has expanded to include representations of Christian-Muslim relations and immigration in contemporary Spain, as well as modern and contemporary Spanish women writers.
At Augustana, Dr. Heacock-Renaud has taught courses on Spanish literature and culture, piracy and captivity in the Mediterranean, contemporary feminisms, and masculinities in the U.S.
Proud to have been a first-generation college student and the first person in her family to travel, work, and live abroad, Dr. Heacock-Renaud is dedicated to helping first-gen students in her classes at Augie to adjust to the college experience and to explore the possibilities and benefits of study abroad. She is profoundly indebted to her own experiences in Montevideo, Uruguay and Valladolid, Spain in shaping her worldview and classroom pedagogy
