Frequently asked questions
Where will I live?
To read about your campus housing options, see Sophomore Residences.
With whom will I live?
It’s up to you! If you don't have a roommate, create a roommate profile under "Personal Information." You can search for students and create a roommate group.
To secure a certain room or suite you will need to have the number of people required to fill the space. You do have the option of selecting a single room, but please note there is a limited quantity of singles.
After the selection day, students who did not secure housing will be able to choose from any available space without a fully formed roommate group.
If you do not sign up for a space during housing selection, the Office of Residential Life will assign you to a space after the selection process ends.
How does the returning student housing selection work?
A few days prior to selection day, you will be assigned a time slot during which you will be able to choose your housing online.
It is important to confirm your roommate group before selection begins, because each student in your roommate group will receive a time — and the roommate with the earliest time slot should log in to housing.augustana.edu during that time to select housing for the entire group. You will only be able to select from spaces that match the size of your group (2, 3 or 4). All time slots are assigned randomly.
What if I decide not to sign up for housing?
Augustana’s developmental, on-campus residential experience is a three-year program. If you do not sign up for housing for the upcoming year and plan on returning to Augustana in the fall, you will be assigned housing and a roommate by the Office of Residential Life.
If you believe you meet the requirements for a housing exemption and want to live off campus, please complete the on-campus exemption request form no later than March 18.
What if I need medical accommodations?
If you have a medical accommodation for housing for this current year, you can be assured of the same type of accommodation for next year and you do not need to take any action. If there have been any changes to your medical needs, submit a new request with supporting documentation by March 29.
What are the different price ranges?
Spaces are billed by the number of beds in a room: a double or triple has two or three beds in the bedroom, and a single only has one bed per bedroom.
Swanson Commons and the Anderson and Bartholomew houses, are “deluxe rooms,” which cost more than standard rooms because they have private bathrooms rather than communal bathrooms on the floor. For full details on housing prices, see the 2024-2025 schedule of student charges.
Can I sign up for double or a suite by myself?
No, you must belong to a roommate group with the correct number of people to fill the room or suite in order to sign up for it during housing selection.
Most Erickson rooms are doubles and will require a two-person roommate group. Suites in Swanson are made up of two double rooms and will require four-person roommate groups.
After the selection day, students who did not secure housing will be able to choose from any available space without a fully formed roommate group.
Am I required to purchase a meal plan?
Yes, all second-year students are required to purchase a meal plan. Dining Services offers more information about meal plans and pricing.
What is the International House?
International House (iHouse) is open to all students interested in building friendships across cultures.
Students living in the iHouse will take WLLC 300 – Intercultural Communication Through Food (1 or 0 credits). Both U.S. and international students are encouraged to apply. The iHouse application is available through housing.augustana.edu and must be completed by March 11, 2024. Students living in the iHouse can request a double or single room and will be billed at the same rate as a traditional residence hall.
What is the ALIVE Fellows Program?
Augustana Leaders in Vocational Exploration (ALIVE) is offered to sophomore residential students who commit to reflect on who they are and whom they feel called to become within a world that desperately needs their gifts and passions. Students accepted into ALIVE fellows who actively participate in this year-long program will be placed in Swanson Hall or Erickson and will receive a partial housing scholarship.
Is there an all-gender housing option for sophomores?
Yes. In order to create housing options that are supportive and inclusive of students who identify outside of the gender binary, Augustana offers the option of all-gender housing. In 2024, we will offer an all-gender floor in Erickson for sophomores. A small number of spaces in Swanson and Andy/Bart will also be available for all-gender housing selection.
Students wanting all-gender housing should complete the all-gender housing application (SYE) on housing.augustana.edu.

Frequently asked questions
Where will I live?
Here is a complete listing of available TLA spaces for the upcoming school year.
With whom will I live?
It’s up to you! If you don't have a roommate, create a roommate profile under "Personal Information." You can search for students and create a roommate group.
To secure a TLA you will need to have the number of people required to fill the space. You also have the option of trying for a single apartment, but please note there are very few single TLAs available.
After the selection day, students who did not secure housing will be able to choose from any space available without a fully formed roommate group.
How does the returning student housing selection work?
A few days prior to selection day, you will be assigned a time window during which you will be able to choose your housing online. It is important to confirm your roommate group before selection begins, because each student in your roommate group will receive a time — and the roommate with the earliest time slot should log in to housing.augustana.edu during that time to select housing for the entire group.
You will only be able to select from spaces that match the size of your group. TLAs range in size from one-person units to eight-person units. You will be informed of your selection time a few days prior to selection day.

If there have been any changes to your medical needs, you will need to submit a new request with supporting documentation by March 29.
What are the different price ranges?
Spaces are billed by the number of beds in a bedroom, not how many students reside in a house or apartment. A double has two beds in a bedroom. A single only has one bed in the bedroom. Many TLA houses have a mix of single and double bedrooms. For full details on housing prices please visit the 2024-2025 schedule of student charges.
Can I sign up to live in a house or apartment by myself?
You can participate in the selection process alone if you want to try to secure a single TLA. There are very few of these available.
What if I don’t have a group, or there are no TLAs available that match my group size?
There are more than enough spaces available for everyone, but we cannot guarantee you will be able to get your first choice of housing. If you are unable to select a TLA during the selection process, you will be able to login after the selection process to choose from available spaces even if your group doesn't fill the TLA. Note that others can do this as well so you will likely receive other suitemates in your TLA.
Am I required to purchase a meal plan?
TLA residents are not required to have a meal plan, but can select commuter/TLA meal plans with fewer meals or purchase additional meals or Viking Bucks. Dining Services offers more information about meal plans and pricing.
