Masterworks II: Fantasies & Fables
The Quad City Symphony Orchestra will begin with Engelbert Humperdinck’s prelude to his opera "Hänsel und Gretel." This will be followed by Michael Abels' "Frederick’s Fables," William Grant Still's "Poem for Orchestra" and Tchaikovsky's "Romeo & Juliet, Fantasy-Overture."

The Quad City Symphony Orchestra will opens its107th season with Dudley Buck’s "Festival Overture on the American National Air." Pianist Garrick Ohlsson will perform Samuel Barber’s "Piano Concerto."
This program of musical Americana concludes with Antonín Dvořák’s "New World Symphony," inspired by African-American spirituals and Native American songs.
Prairie pottery workshop
Augustana Professor of Art Megan Quinn will lead a half-day pottery workshop. Participants will make and paint pinched pottery inspired by the surrounding prairie at the retreat center.
The workshop will run from 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Firing will be completed offsite. The $30 fee includes materials and lunch.
