Liz Nino

Executive Director of International Enrollment

Liz Nino is an international educator who has worked in K-12 independent school and university admissions.

She has spent most of her career promoting and developing international enrollment initiatives. As a result of her work, Augustana College was recognized as the top 24 Baccalaureate College in the United States enrolling international students.

Nino serves on several international education committees where she provides advice on diversity and inclusion efforts. Her career combines her passions for cultural understanding, languages, and international education.

John S. Delaney

John S. Delaney

Professor and Acting Chair (Fall) of Accounting

Dr. Delaney is the 2014 Illinois CPA Society Outstanding Educator, and he currently serves as chair of the Accounting Department.  

Prior to coming to Augustana, he held administrative and teaching positions with St. Ambrose University and Loras College. 

Before he became an educator, Dr. Delaney spent 17 years in business working as an accountant and auditor for a large regional public utility and a multi-national agri-processing company. His research interests include ethics, fraud investigation and auditing.

He was born in Fort Madison, Iowa, and completed his undergraduate work at Loras College where he received a B.A. in accounting (1982). His master of business administration was awarded by the University of Iowa (1995), and his doctor of business administration degree was awarded by St. Ambrose University (2005).

Laurel Filzen Etzel

Laurel Filzen Etzel

Part-Time Instructor of Music

Laurel Filzen Etzel is the instructor of horn at Augustana. Laurel earned her Master of Music degree in Horn Performance from Western Michigan University in April 2006 where she studied with Dr. Lin Foulk. This was followed by an additional year of study at WMU as a candidate for a Master of Music in Conducting, studying conducting with Dr. Robert Spradling, Dr. David Montgomery, and Dr. James Bass. She was awarded a Graduate Teaching Assistantship for both degree programs. As a Teaching Assistant in horn, one of her responsibilities was directing the horn choir and assisting with the brass techniques class. As a Teaching Assistant in conducting, she directed the Bronco Pep Band, assisted with Concert Band and Bronco Marching Band, and taught basic conducting. Laurel earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Western Illinois University in Music Performance in May 2004 where she studied with Dr. Randall Faust.

In addition to teaching at Augustana, Laurel is active as a freelance musician throughout Central and Western Illinois both as a hornist and as a singer. She performs regularly as the Assistant Director and third horn for the Peoria Municipal Band, with the Knox Galesburg Symphony, and is the hornist with the River Valley Brass Quintet.

Prior to moving to Moline in 2021, Laurel was the Executive Director of Central Illinois Ballet and its official school, Cornerstone Academy of Performing Arts. Additional past experiences are as an adjunct faculty member at Illinois Central College, where she taught music appreciation, as well as applied horn; she was also concurrently the Director of the Knox Sandburg Community Concert Band at Knox College and taught applied horn.

Laurel’s professional affiliations include being  a member of the American Federation of Musicians, Local 301; Mu Phi Epsilon, Beta Omicron Chapter; and Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society, Beta Sigma Chapter.

Laura E. Greene

Professor of English

Laura Greene teaches British Literature, with a special interest in Victorian fiction.  In addition to her duties in the English department, she regularly teaches in both the Honors and the Women’s Studies Programs.

Her research interests currently involve exploring how students learn; she was named a Carnegie Scholar in 2003-04 to pursue a research project on what kinds of questions students ask in response to course readings.  She is chair of the Literature and Language division of the college.
