Augustana's Class of 2025 recognized at commencement ceremony

On Saturday, Augustana College recognized 555 candidates for graduation at the 165th commencement ceremony. The commencement address was given by The Honorable Eric Sorensen, U.S. Representative, Illinois District 17. Ocean Keola Akau '25, a psychology major from Pana’ewa, Hawaii, was the featured student speaker.

Augustana College will mark a transformational milestone on Tuesday, May 27, with its first in-prison commencement ceremony, honoring graduates of the Augustana Prison Education Program (APEP).

Lecture video: The history of ice glaciers

It has been nearly 18 billion years since we have seen carbon emissions like we have now, says Dr. John Isbell, professor at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He talked about the history of ice glaciers for the Polar Lecture at Augustana College. "We will have to reduce our carbon emissions, and it is still going to go up for a while. If we can reduce emissions, we can slow it down."

Honoring the late Dr. Daniel Culver

The walls of Bergendoff Hall hold the legacy of Dr. Daniel Culver, professor emeritus of music at Augustana College. He never liked the word "professor" — he always called himself a teacher. And that was his goal: to educate and empower student musicians to become better. He demanded work; he demanded engagement; and he demanded excellence, not just in music but in the musical habits and curiosity of his students.
