A.J.C. Anderson emigrated to Galva, Illinois from Södra Vi Parish, Kalmar län (Småland), Sweden, in the summer of 1870 at the age of 19. He farmed in Essex, Iowa from 1871 to 1920. He died in June 1937. Collection consists of three photocopies of letters to A.J.C. Anderson from family.

Francis Springer, a descendant of one of the Delaware Swedes, was the first president of Illinois State University in Springfield in 1852. He voiced the opinion that immigrants should make the transition to the English language as quickly as possible and accept the reformed church order of American Lutheranism. Collection consists of one typed article titled “Article III, The Lutheran Church in Illinois” by Rev. Francis Springer, D.D, Irving, Illinois.

Collection includes two contracts related to Skandia of Moline, Illinois, a newspaper published from 1876-1878. Parties involved include P.E. Melin, A.C.F. DeRemee, Gustaf Swensson, and representatives of Augustana College.
